Advice to patients in view of the current security restrictions on the taking of contact lens solutions onto aircraft
16 August 2006
The current restrictions on the taking of contact lens solutions onto aircraft mean that patients may be tempted to either overwear their contact lenses (as they will not be able to remove them and put them in solution), store their contact lenses dry or even lick their lenses to wet them. None of these methods is advisable! Patients are advised that - unless otherwise advised by their optometrist or contact lens optician - the safest answer is to wear their spectacles during the flight. All contact lens wearers should have a serviceable back-up pair of spectacles.
