Membership

The College has over 14,150 members (at 1 January 2013), including over 10,050 practising UK members and Fellows.   College members work in a range of settings including:
 
  • independent private practice
  • corporate organisations
  • the NHS (hospital and community settings)
The College’s members are based in the UK and overseas, and include students studying for degrees in optometry, trainees undertaking their pre-registration period, practitioners who work in a variety of settings and retired optometrists.
  
In order to remain in membership all Fellows and members have to pay an annual subscription according to their category of membership, must agree to abide by the Code of Ethics of the College, and, if in practice, must undertake to carry adequate professional indemnity cover to safeguard themselves and their patients.
