National Eye Health Week

National Eye

For the first time ever the UK eyecare sector is joined forces with charities and healthcare professionals to launch National Eye Health Week 2010 (14-20 June).

Under the banner Vision Matters, the campaign communicated the importance of eye health and the need for regular sight tests to people from every walk of life. Of the 1.8 million people in the UK living with sight loss, 53% could be helped with a simple sight test and new spectacles. Organisations across the UK staged a whole range of activities to support the campaign.

The College supported National Eye Health week by funding research which was used with the consumer media to raise the profile of eye health during the week. The College also worked closely with RNIB to organise a parliamentary reception which was held on the 16 June. MPs were invited to learn more about the planning and provision of eye health services in their area and had the opportunity to have their eyes examined using the latest diagnostic equipment, courtesy of Topcon.  Organisations from across the UK staged a whole range of activities in support of the campaign.
