2. Career Development Loans Now Available to Pre-Registration Trainees

   9 December 2004

   The College is pleased to announce that it has become a Department for Education and Skills (DfES) approved Learning Provider. Pre-Registration trainees are now eligible to apply for Career Development Loans.

3. CET Self-Certification Update

   8 December 2004

   The College's CET scheme is self-certifying and all Members will shortly receive a letter from the College asking for the number of CET points accrued in 2004.

4. College Launches Search for New Council Members

   2 December 2004

   The College has this week invited nominations for candidates to stand for election to its Council. At the 2004 AGM, members voted to change the Colleges governance structure, creating a new-style Council, up to 40 members strong and elected on a regional basis, together with a smaller Board of Trustees.

5. College Conference Theme Announced - Funding the Future

   2 December 2004

   To mark the 25th Anniversary of the College Postgraduate Research Scholarship Fund, Professor Bernard Gilmartin will lead a lecture entitled Funding the Future at next years College Conference.

   College announces keynote speaker and extended lecture and workshop programme for 2005 conference.

7. New Scheme for Registration Steering Group agrees Data Protection guidelines

   1 October 2004

   In order to carry out their role, College Assessors working within the pilot New Scheme for Registration of UK Trained Optometrists will need to have access to the records of patients examined by trainees.

9. Consultation on Reform of the General Optical Council - The Colleges response

   4 August 2004

   The College welcomes the opportunity to comment on the suggested reforms as laid out in the draft Opticians Act (Amendment) Order 2004 and is supportive of the principles of streamlining procedures, and greater involvement of patients and the public, which lie behind the reforms.

10. College Summer Reception

    17 June 2004

    The College of Optometrists held its 1st Annual Summer Reception and the grand opening of their newly refurbished library on Tuesday 15 June.
