Patient leaflets

As part of our work to support members, and to make sure that members of the public see optometrists as their first port of call if they have a problem with their eyes, we have produced a series of patient information leaflets. 
 
The leaflets, free to College members, provide practical advice and guidance to your patients, complementing the information you give patients during the consultation.
 
The leaflets subjects were selected based on member requests:

  • flashes and floaters
  • cataract
  • age-related macular degeneration
  • ageing eyes and falls
  • blepharitis
  • glaucoma
  • children's eye health.

All the leaflets have been carefully checked by expert optometrists and approved by the Plain English Campaign.

The children's leaflet is supplemented with children's materials: activity sheets for very young children (including colouring-in pictures and a maze), information sheets for primary-school children (giving facts about common eye conditions), and a series of brightly-coloured stickers.
 
UK practising members can download and order printed copies of the leaflets. 

Feedback on the leaflets has been very positive: "These leaflets are amazing to give patients, as no matter how much they seem to understand what you say in the room, it's good to have something they can go back to and check the information and advice given."
