Performance Review Scheme

The College offers a Performance Review Scheme for practitioners who are referred to us by the GOC.  The scheme comprises a peer review type meeting with one or two experienced optometrists who discuss the issues that lead to the complaint and other matters that arise.  A written report of the meeting is sent to the practitioner shortly after the meeting, for their records, with a summary of any action points that are agreed.  The aim of the process is to identify what went wrong and to suggest improvements where necessary to avoid - as much as possible - a similar complaint occurring again.  The Clinical Adviser is on hand after the meeting to answer any queries and to help with and monitor any action points that are agreed.

The whole process is conducted in a positive manner and feedback from practitioners who have attended includes:

•    ‘I enjoyed talking to you very much.  I found the meeting very useful and constructive.’

•     ‘I found the whole experience incredibly helpful and having it in writing enables me to look over the points that were raised.’

•    ‘I would like to thank you and Mrs Penny for your help and guidance.  I found the meeting extremely helpful and constructive.  Once again I would like to thank you for your help and for making a nerve-wracking experience enjoyable.’

•    'I must say your analysis of my routine and recording have caused me to rethink what and why I do things. I thought the exercise stimulating and very worthwhile.'

The scheme is also available to non-members at £625 + VAT
