Optical Career Ladder
The Optical Sector includes a range of careers and an individual can enter at a number of educational levels in order to train and achieve qualifications from vocational to post graduate degree level. By fulfilling the correct entry requirements candidates can enter at a number of levels or undertake study and assessment that will allow them to move up the ladder to higher qualifications.
The Optical Career Ladder has been developed by the Joint Education Committee and Optical Confederation with input from a wide range of optical, professional and academic organisations in order to give a comprehensive representation of the qualifications and therefore careers and potential employment available.
Individuals can enter Optics straight from school at 16 or after A-Levels or University study. Alternatively individuals can enter the profession at a later stage through access courses and other schemes.
