Framework to give you guidance on Clinical Governance in optometric practice. Clinical governance has benefits in improving not only the quality of patient care, but also efficiency and procedures. It can therefore both enhance patient satisfaction and reduce costs. In short Clinical Governance “is doing anything and everything required to maximise quality”. Although the driving force for clinical governance has been the NHS (and it is expected that participation in Clinical Governance will be a requirement of practice in the NHS), it applies equally to private patients and should be seen as an opportunity to improve the service optometrists can offer to all patients.
