does anyone have any info on the principles of the burton lamp. why doesnt the pupil react to the UV part for example.

pupil doesn't react to uv light, because retina is not sensitive to UV light, so there is no "signal" sent to the pupil sphincter. Obviously there is also some visible blue light from the lamp, but this is dim, and not enough to cause significant constriction.
