how do you tell papillae from follicles? Kanski comparison is too complicated

Follicles appear as smooth, oval, jelly-like elevations, with a tendency to coalesce and form ridges.

 

In contrast, papillae have a central vascular core, and tend to be rounder and more hyperaemic.

however, with respect - they can often look the same - unless they are large!

In a practical way, they are a diagnosis by exclusion - if there is no allergy ir irritating contact lens rub - but there is virus (molusc or something ) then it is one and not 'tother. (guess which!)-palfi
