1) There are now 2 levels of exemptions level 1 which all optoms can use and level 2 wer optoms have to do a course/training.

I know that chloramphenicol(level 1) is now a P med and no longer a POM and that we can only to use it too treat bacterial conj.

Even tho its a P med do we still have to give the Px a signed order or is it ok to tell them to go to the chemist and ask for it (wots should we say if asked in pqe's)???

while it would be okay to tell the px to get a bottle from the chemist -a professional optom would want to manage the infection themselves - so they would issue an Rx and review the px after 4 days. So you issue a prescription to the px to get it from the chemist with all the details of dosages and for how long. You also book the px in for a review to monitor their progress. Long winded - but important - there are many people who are alergic to medicines and also the bacteria may be resistant. You don't leave it to chance or the chemist.
