I am aware that you have to bring certain equipments to the exams, but because my plscemnt finsihes soon, i wont have access to flippers, cross-cyl etc. When i did me exams at aston, i noticed they had these equipments availabe, Just curious whether anyone knows if these equipments are availabe or has anyone experiance not to have these resources available to them in the exam room?

if you failed routine I suggest that you get another placement, contact the college and ask what they provide and what they don't. You should not leave it to chance or why don't you buy the equipment there is someone selling stuff on Ebay

Generally I think equipment is available, but using equipment other than your own can cause big confusion in an exam setting - different coloured markings on cross cyls especially. Could you borrow from someone who's sitting exams at the same time??

From the PQE handbook "Candidates are required to supply their own ophthalmoscopes, retinoscopes,

loupes, clinical torches, trial frames, rules and drawing instruments."

Additional equipment may be available but the Universities are under no obligation to supply cross cyls, flip lenses etc. and may be reluctant to do so due to the potential risk of loss of some equipment. I'd suggest bringing your own and if you haven't got your own cross cyls etc. you really ought to have!

U really should take your own even if u have to buy them!! u get student discounts anyway and u will always use it all in the future. also u really do need to be doing routine even up to the last day - trust me i did routine exam 3 times - hardest of them all!!!
