Dispensing Rx
Aug 10, 2005 15:02:38 If an Rx is 2 years old or more, legally it is out of date, however can one dispense it if the Px refuses an eye examiantion, ir if the px is unable to attend - as long as it is noted that the px was advised? |

RE: Dispensing Rx
Aug 10, 2005 20:02:55 You can't dispense an expired Rx : obviously. It would be not in the px best interest to make it pu as the eyes may have changed anyway, and the point is to make th px get their eyes checked for health every two years or when ever. So to make it up after expiry may be unprofessional and miss conduct. I think it is also against the GOC rules. However, if the px was unable to attend and needed the specs urgently( by this I mean - not just unwilling to leave off work - but -say not able to drive to the opticians without the spex), then it may be in the px interest to get them made in anticipation of a imminant eye test. |

RE: Dispensing Rx
Aug 10, 2005 21:20:46 I think you will find that you can dispense rx's of whatever age as long as you are a qualified practioner DO or OO and that unregistered sellers can only make up to rx less than 2 years old. Whether you choose too or not is down to your professional judgement. |

RE: Dispensing Rx
Aug 10, 2005 21:23:34 I think it is legal for an optom to make up an Rx whatever the expiry date howevever if patient then had disease which would have been picked up, in big trouble. Obviously its important to stress the importance of a test and try and and get patient in for exam. It is illegal for a lay person to make up spex if outside the prescription valid date. |
