This is a question which I found in one of my revision guides:

"Are yu legally required to check the fit of every new lens you supply to a Px?"

Does anyone have an idea of a possible answer please

Do you mean that every soft lens supplied may be different so should be checked on the patient's eyes. Cant be right as daily lenses.

Or do you mean if you change a patient to a different lens eg. ciba to acuvue, that you should check the fit of the acuvue before they take the lens to wear? I dont know! Id hope yes, but know many clo's that dont.

im not sure myself what the question is getting at, im assuming it means everytime you supply another set of lenses which are the same as whaty the px is already wearing, eg another 30 days supply.

Hmm... I would suspect probably not unless poss is rgp.... V confusing. My thinking is that with eg. montly lenses, they are meant to be verified anyway, and if they are exactly the same as the last lens, they should be fine. But then again... should be fine for rgps then, but i wouldnt give a replacement rgp without checking the fit. Sorry, am waffling.

Thinking about the new laws coming in on pharmacy selling cls, i would think that if the specification is valied for say 3 months, they could get lenses using that without them being checked.

My short answer to the question if it came up would be 'no - coz daily disposables'.

every new fit - yes

replacement lenses - no as long as they are not due an aftercare and the lenses conform to the issued prescription.

The fit is re-assessed during the aftercare. Replacement gp lenses are usually checked for fit at collection - but I don't think there is any legal requirement.

Great, that was a bit more concise palfi!

if you dont check the fit of every lens you wont know how that specific lens behaves on the eye, for instance two lenses of the same base curve and diameter will behave diferently on the same eye due to differences in modulus, water content, wetting properties etc...thereby, without checking the fit you dont know whether that specific lens is suitable for that px and in the long term can lead to adverse effects.

hope this helps
