look on EBay - I have seen good ones go for a few dollars. I saw a welch allyn diagnostic kit as new with charger for $45. I refuse to spend much on a direct. I rebuilt mine as good as new -I like cottage industry. They are not hard to strip down, clean, resort the lamp system and fix up. :-)

Keeler professional is light, ergonomic and give a good clear picture.I use my own rechargeable batteries.

I have Neitz and W.Allyn, much prefer the Keeler.

Whichever model you go for, change the lens wheel once a year as they all get dusty with use.

Welch Allyn for me, I have the standard head and the panoptic, has never let me down.Good price,Optical quality and easy care. Keeler can be more expensive.

my ophthalmoscope (specialist) was letting me down recently, the light kept switching off and the lenses were getting mucky, i sent it to Stat One in birmingham who serviced it and it is like new now - cost about £90 + vat to get it done, and well worth it.
