wouldn't it be great if we could advertise using the words " one of the best and most thorough eye examinations available". i don't see why we are not allowed to do this. if we invest in better technology and equipment then joe bloggs down the road, why can't we say we have a more thorough examination?

I suppose the question would be who says it is one of the best, is it more thorough? Does having more machines that go beep make you better than the guy down the road with ten years more experience and a couple of College diploma or two?

I agree with Mr Hunter

What is the bench mark? Surely having the best technology does not make necessarily make it the best!

There is more to it than meets the......

Specsavers and Optical Express has abuse the system of advertising many times but nothing has been done. The guidelines are there for indies.

I presume that most of think we do a good job. As has been said, who is to judge who is the best? However, if you have invested in "fancy" equipment, I don't think these is anything to stop you advertising that you have it, and what it does.

I wonder if, since price comparisons are apparently legal, you could commission an independent market research firm to canvass local opinion on how "good" the respondents usual/ last Optometrist was. Then you could publish the "how good" comparison.

Better hope you're as good as you think, right enough!

Bring back the good old days when so much time and money wasn't wasted on advertising.

there is nothing wrong with you advertising that your practice offers the best eyecare service as long as the advert indicates it as a statement by a patient and their name is printed after the statement.

I would be very wary of using the word "best" in any advert. I once did an advertorial in a local paper and the journalist thought she was doing me a favour by signing off the editorial with the words " and so for the best in eyecare go to ....". The GOC were all over me like a rash. Even though it was not scripted by me, I was held resposible.

IMHO, if you use additional technology such as fundus camera, volk in particular with dilation, visual fields routinely, you are bound to find more than the average optom who does not offer these extras routinely. Does this make you a better optom? I think so.
