Can anyone provide background on canned saline?

What does pH EUR stand for? Are there any other symbols that one should look our for?

Why isn't saline preserved? (probably a daft question)

What is the pH of saline? What buffers are used to maintain this?

What else is contained in a a can of saline?

Why do we use fluorets instead of fluorescein solution?

Why does fluorescein fluoresce? and what are the optimal conditions for this to occur?

fluorescein is a ph indicator - extracellualr ph being different to intracellular. it also works best at an optimal concentration. therefore you instill it, give some time for the excess to drain and then observe. fluorets avoid cross contamination of patients - from the dim and distant, using solution there is a risk of psuedamonas contamination?!
