Good day all

Anyone dealt with Shamir varifocals in the past and have any comments on their performance compared to other progressive lens leaders such as Essilor, Nikon, Hoya etc.

I am considering using them for the bulk of my dispensing, is that advisable?

The Sheedy report, rated them as about the best of all varifocals.

Shamir optical specialises in designing prog lenses for all the current lens manufacturers. They developed the J&J Progressive lens which took USA by storm and affected essilor alot. J&J were to launch the lens here and they didn't as Essilor bought out the lens rights from J&J to stem the effect. The uk operations are based at cambridge which used to belong to cambridge opticals and has been quite extensively moderined to handle precision rimless glazing and high quality lenses. I would reccomend you speak to Grahame Brierley at Shammir who i am sure will accomodate your business very well.

Just for the record,

G Brierly no longer works @Shamir, heonly lasted about six weeks.

They do make great products but sadly dont have a recognizable brand name so the public cant relate to them.

Anyone got any news of Ukindependants it seems to have gone quiet?

thanks for the info re:g brierley, i didn't know.

When ur dealing with nearly 400 enquiries from indies all over the uk, it takes time to sift thru the data, respond to each indie personally, talk to the suppliers and run my 4 practices. The response has been overwhelming. C/L suppliers meetings have proven good and i am now talking to all the other frames, lenses and equipment supppliers.

I expect to finalise all negotiations with in the next 4 weeks.
