Eventually it's been announced! Many Scottish Optom's were aware that there was going to be big changes to the GOS eyetest in scotland, but now it's been announced officially.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4377926.stm

Standard NHS fee £28.50. Everyone eligible. Repeat exam fee £18 (repeat fields, IOP etc for referral refinement). Over 60's every year. No requirement to refract if not clinically necessary (e.g. monitoring F/H Glaucoma patients). Over 60's expected to be dilated & Volk where clinically necessary. Over 70's expected to be dilated & Volk as standard. No referral for Glaucoma without doing applanation 1st (and repeat fields).

This sounds like being paid to do the job properly that we have been trained for!!

Very well done to Frank Munro and all at Optometry Scotland for their part in the negotiations.

The bbc site makes no mention of the fees.

Any confirmation on those?

More money for the practice owners and multiples, isnt it? Scottish optoms probably have the lowest salaries.

I think that dubious honour belongs to Northern Ireland at the moment, but Scotland may not be far behind!

AOP mailshot recieved today (not sure if this was everyone or just in scotland) gives details re fees, as mentioned in the post above. there do seem to be a rew issues with "details to be agreed later". There will also be minimum standards for equipement, including volk lens and contact tonometer. All in all, could be very good news.

£28.50 for sight test. £18 for repeat fields/dilation at Optom's discretion. time to move to Caledonia.

Also note the changes that they want all optom's to be "accredited" but no word on how... and we all have to sign a GOS contract again.

The removal of the need to refract should prove interesting as will the fact that they are still going ahead with eye care pathways.

£8000 practice grant (one off) for equipment to meet the new standards as well.

Anyone predict a rise in referrals initially as people who haven't bothered to pay for private ST walk in with referrable pathology?
