volk or head band?
Oct 26, 2005 21:12:17 the college guidelines on retinal detachment, out a few months ago say - dilate then Volk is better than Head band for viewing, unless you indent. They quote some very optimistic angles of view with the volk (gained from Volk website I think). But this is counter to my experience -which is that head band is better than volk in getting far into the periphery. What is right? |

Oct 26, 2005 22:27:15 I think unless indenting, gonio is probably preferred. But yes - headset over volk for greater peripheral view. :) |

RE: volk or head band?
Oct 27, 2005 13:37:36 Are many people really comfortable with indenting in optometric practice? Comments that I read on this site are the first indications I've seen that some optoms are happy to indent. |

Oct 27, 2005 13:39:29 Getting back to the original quetion - I've always been under the impression that headband gives the greater peripheral fundus view. |

Oct 27, 2005 19:00:52 is mag high enough with the headband to pick up small tears? I suppose the cop out answer is to do both. |

Oct 28, 2005 21:41:48 I suppose it is -and with care the head band is pretty good with tiny tears and bits and bobs. I suppose I feel more comfy with a head band - and that helps! I am really not mad on Volk bio except for disk and central retina. Then its brill (if dilated) |
