Px came into the store yesterday asking for a copy of there contact lens Rx. Yet it was over 18 months since they last had an aftercare. I therefore refused to issue it. Did I act correctly or should I have given the Px a copy and then wrote on it that it was no longer current?

i would have given a copy and endorse it out of date

In any case, if the Px was going to purchase them over the www or at tescos, they should confirm the Rx anyway, so either way he probably wont be able to get hold of any... well ideally neway

Never Refused given the copy of Rx spectacles or CL's, BUT you can say that is out of date which mean they need a new tests(or aftercare)in order to be correct or able to order the Contacts( book an appoitment ).other ways you can charge £5-£10 for extra copy (admin charge).

i would not give it as it is out of date and could not legally be used to buy contact lenses.

We all know that there are internet companies who do not give a stuff how up to date the the rx is,why make it easy for them.

Does anyone know what the law states. I know if the contact lens Rx is current then I have to give the Px a copy by law.

But if it is out of date and I refuse to give the Px a copy of there contact lens Rx am I breaking the law?

I think that the patient is still entitled to a copy of the CL Specifications.Of course they are not able to purchase cl's with it but it could be they have a complex Rx and it is to ease the job of the new cl practioner?

i think the correct thing to do would be to advise the patient of the out of date spec and invite them in for a full aftercare.Of course this is chargeable but the idea of opening the supply is to increase patient choice. The patient then has the choice-do they come to you for AC and possible purchase,do they just have the ac and purchase elsewhere or do they go elsewhere for everything?

The sneaky thing to do is issue the CL Specs and mark that they have expired without telling the patient in the hope that they cannot get cl's supplied.
