Nystagmus
Feb 18, 2006 00:40:43 Had a px today when I occluded either of his eyes the other eye would manifest a nystagmus. However, with both eyes open no nystagmus was present. I was just wondering how would I perform a fields test on such a patient? |

RE: Nystagmus
Feb 18, 2006 19:24:14 Its worth doing confrontation on everyone, I even do it on children(!). It will give you an idea how it will go. I had a boy once who had a pronounced field defect on confrontation caused by a serious intra cranial tumour - shocked me and made me realise never to pass the confrontation test by. There is no easy answers to this one, that I know. Some machines automatically oclude the non-tested eye - but with their glasses on and telling them to concentrate, you may get useful results. Sometimes the nystagmus is less in a particular head posture, so by tilting their head slightly - sometimes it also helps. all the best = steve |

Feb 19, 2006 20:45:47 -you could also use a high plus lens power to occlude the other eye. (or a contact lens). See above -you got me going on doing a vocab for us all to use. - steve |
