I examined a patient with a 6/12 recall which resulted in no Rx change. The 15 year old girl also wore cl's. The old specs weren't damaged, scratched and in serviceable condition. The patient wanted more cl's so can i provide the voucher for her cl's or does she have to pay for them? Rx R +5DS L + 6.50/-1.00*80

=slippery slope - in my humble opinion. She should be tested every year unless has a bino problem or is Rx unstable. Voucher only issued when needed clinically - not just to suit mothers purse. I have known optoms getting into trouble with this one. Don't forget that all your vouchers are monitored against a countrywide norm and compared. So, the young girl has to pay! (in my practice anyway). If you phone the PPC - they get very muddled and may give the wrong answer. Truth is no change - no voucher unless clinically needed or replacement. No early eyetests unless clinically justified. -hope it helps - steve

I was asked to see a teenage patient who had been tested within the previous year, had the voucher put towards contact lens supply and couldn't afford to continue in lenses. Had no specs (+7.00 R&L) , couldn't afford sight test let alone specs. "Was desparate".

Not on my list no.

Temporary solution (goes against the grain )-get a pair +4.00 readers from library.
