NHS ST for Px requiring complex lenses
Apr 04, 2006 18:58:42 I understand that patients requiring 'complex lenses' are entitled to a NHS eye exam. However, what must the Rx be in order to be classed as a 'complex prescription' e.g -10.00DS and over??? |

Apr 04, 2006 21:40:06 you are correct - those with a complex Rx are entitled to a NHS paid eye test. The Rx must be a 10ds or over and/or 6dc or over to qualify for a C voucher and the above exemption. You can download the vouchers and bands from The AOP site. -hope it helps. steve |

RE: NHS ST for Px requiring complex lenses
Apr 04, 2006 21:40:15 Last time I checked it was any meridian greater than or equal to 10.0 D (plus or minus). It can be worth transposing, as it can be missed sometimes. I understand that anyone who has a complex voucher is entitled to a contribution from the NHS. Am i right in thinking that this is irregardless of financial circumstances? Is this allowance given in addition to the voucher to those entitled to a voucher? Finally, would you reccommend yearly eye examinations for those with a complex prescription. The GOS sight interval guidelines don't specifically have a reccomended time interval for those regarded as complex prescriptions, however it does have a code (4.1) to justify an earlier test. Does this mean that it is the practioners choice as to when to retest, or does it serve as some guideline? |

Apr 04, 2006 21:44:52 Stephen, it appears that we've replied at the same time! Can you elaborate on what you mean by "The Rx must be a 10ds or over and/or 6dc or over to qualify for a C voucher and the above exemption." Would it not be a D voucher if over 6DC?? |

Apr 05, 2006 11:01:30 Hi entropY I liked yr answer : better than mine - ! Yes - the eye test and reduced voucher is for everyone who qualifying of Rx grounds alone. Yes you can test them annually, if it can be clinically justified (ie: if the Rx was changing rapidly, or there was a risk of PVD or glaucoma, as there is in these groups. It is 'C' band or greater, so includes 'D' etc. -steve |

RE: NHS ST for Px requiring complex lenses
Apr 16, 2006 14:33:30 Similar to my earlier question, I was wondering if over 70's should have an annual eye examination. The GOS allows an annual eye examination for over 70's. Again, should I have to be able to explain why I have reccomeneded annual eye examination for any particular patient over the age of 70?? Because I do come across many patients (over 70) whose Rx is stable, and has been for many years, there is no changes to the visual status, and so consequently have advised 2 yearly eye examination, explaining that they may attend anytime earlier if required. I mean if in this instance a practioner still advised an annual GOS eye examination, would it be regarded as fraudulent? |
