revision strategy
May 28, 2006 12:36:48 hi, hoping you can all give me a few pointers! i know the assesments so far have en completely competency based. will the final exams be off this sort of format too? and if so would you recommend revision being based around the specific competencies, or, like the old pre reg exams base my revision over the cre subjects, eg bv, drugs, law. i hope that make sense, any help as to how the others are revsing, and of course help from the examiners etc would be of good use! ta! joanne |

Jun 01, 2006 10:36:31 Tsh tsh -pre exam nerves eh? All the stuff is on the members only site on section 4 http://www.college-optometrists.org/index.aspx/pcms/site.publication.Members_Handbook/displayAmount/5/page/2/ As it will be based on scenario's why don't you concentrate on the biggy ones like glaucoma, childrens eye problems, cataracts, AMD, diabetes. It will help to check what other people will do in each circumstance. You can gain this - by asking! ==steve |

Jun 02, 2006 07:29:08 The final assessments are all based on identifying competencies. They are a mix of observational examination and some oral exams. Contact lenses you have one hour to fit an RGP and Soft CL and do an aftercare (on one eye only, this exam also examines your slit lamp technique. As the examiners will not be asking questions during this exam YOU WILL HAVE TO DO A LOT OF TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING. The examiners are now expecting you to talk them through your fitting and aftercare. |
