what is the hes management for

1)pre proliferative diabetic retinopathy ie cotton wool spots...... do they immediately laser off ischaemic areas or monitor for a while etc etc..... also refer this within what sort of time scale? within week? few weeks?

2)proliferative diabetic retinopathy..... again immediate laser treatment? and again referal urgency? same day? within 1 week?

3)diabetic maculopathy? same day?

im tryin to get together pqe answers in terms of hes management..... i know ischaemic areas need to killed off but how quickly does this need to be done? and realistically how quickly is this done?

any help appreciated....... especially in pqe answer perspective

it is worth reading the diabetic care workbook which you can get from

-its the NHS guideline for the whole thing!

-also phone and ask the College for a copy of their "Framework for Optometric Referrals". It is good for giving suggested urgency for many types of referals.
