I would appreciate slight clarification on a few points with regards to the contact lens exam in the final assessment.

Is the aftercare on one eye only? Or is it a case of examine the fit of the lens in one eye, and check the health of the other eye so NaFl staining wont affect the CL? And is an overrefraction not necessary? I'm thinking it'll be worthwhile anyway.

Should keratometry be carried out as part of the aftercare? Or can we suggest it as a 'supplimentary investigation'?

Are pupil measurments worthwhile in the fit exam? We're not going to be able to change the BOZD of the lens we insert so is there any gain from taking pupil measurements? The same could be said for HVID I suppose as my trial set all have the same TD, but this is a more useful measurment in general in my opinion.

Thanks for any info in advance.

In answer to your questions:

The aftercare is on one eye only, I am assuming that means with the lens in and without it (that way you can assess patient handling skills). However some examiners may find it easier to leave a lens out of one eye and for you to do your slit lamp examination on that as you have suggested.

You do not have to do an overrefraction, you can do it if you want but be wary of time issues.

Supplementary.

If you don't measure the Pupil size explain why to the examiner.

Thanks Tim, appreciated. Nice to go into an exam vaguely prepared for what to expect.
