HES px
Aug 21, 2007 20:25:15 If a 4yr old px is under the care of a hospital for a high hyperopic rx and squint; and insists on having a sight test in between hospital visits (which are every 3months) is the optician obliged to test the px? If the optician tests the px, bearing in mind the px gets an rx from the hospital; and a change is found which rx do you give the px? What is the recall for this px at the optician's? Thanks |

RE: HES px
Aug 22, 2007 06:32:26 You have two issues one getting involved in the management of an existing HES patient, who is being managed at least partly through their refractive correction. I certainly am not impressed by community optometrists who issue reduced prescriptions compared to my HES prescriptions, either because they have not used cycloplegic or have not understood the management strategy. The other is the frequency of testing on the GOS, under GOS regulations frequency of testing for a child under seven with BV problems etc. is down to your clinical judgement. I would ask why does the child need testing more frequently then the interval at the HES, I suspect it is the parent insisting (rather than the child) that is influencing your choice. You should only get involved if you are sure you are not compromising their existing care and that it is your professional opinion that more frequent testing is required. |
