Drivingand referral
Oct 31, 2007 17:42:34 Some guidence please. If my px had best corrected VA 6/24&was still driving, What do i do? i'm aware if they didnt want to be referred i would try my best to persuade them and note on record card any advice. However if this px was a bus driver can i notify his GP without consent? or even the DVLA |

RE: Drivingand referral
Nov 03, 2007 19:15:14 This is an interesting ethical question. Basically, if the patient does not want referal - then note that in the notes and don't refer him. The person is basically able to make an informed decision given all the facts which you have given him. His insurance will be null and void if he has an accident and his buss company would regard this as a disciplinary offence as well as being illegal. Given that public vehicle drivers have to renew their licences every two years (I think) - unless there was a big drop in vision - I think the gp would be aware already. Perhaps, a less direct approach, more concilatory approach will pay dividends here. Like suggesting his problem needs a second opinion at eye clinic as refer - that way your findings come out anyway. If he is total denial about his vision - there is little you can do. |
