whats the difference between Brolene and chloramphenicol?

when would you use which?

when would you choose one over the other?

Essentially chloramphenicol is broader spectrum and more effective against gram negative organisms that Brolene. Brolene may be used by optoms for historical reasons, as it was the only antibiotic available prior to the recent changes in drug legislation. Chloramphenicol is a better choice for conjunctivitis, but if you needed to prescibe antibiotics for perisistent blepharitis (after trying lid hygeine measures), chloramphenicol is not available as a P medicine for this purpose, so brolene/goldeneye would be the only option.
