Ophthalmic Public Health Seminar - 4 September

02 July 2008

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists will be holding a Public Health Seminar on 4 September.

Now that the UK Vision Strategy has been launched, there is an increasing impetus for everyone concerned with delivering eye services to be aware of the public health agenda.  Prevention of eye disease, health promotion and raising awareness are vital if we are to make an impact on the 50% of sight loss that is preventable or treatable, especially as the proportion of elderly people increases.  The packed programme will cover every aspect of ophthalmic public health from its definition to practical examples of delivery. The seminar will be relevant for trainees, ophthalmologists, public health doctors, optometrists, orthoptists, nurses, the ‘third sector’ and commissioners of services. As the government reviews the role of the NHS, primary community care will be developed and funded. We should not be left behind, but explore ways of working together to deliver a service that is more about prevention and creating an integrated and effective eye service.
