College Council Election Results

24 February 2003

The following have been re-elected to College Council: Mr Thomas Armstrong, Mr David Cartwright, Miss Judith Morris and Mr Frank Munro.

Dr Rob Hogan has also been elected to College Council. Dr Hogan is Director of Professional Services at Dollond & Aitchison, and is looking forward to the challenges of being a College Council member, commenting:  "The GOC, College, FODO, AOP and others should be bringing their specific functions and qualities to blend and work together to improve "UK Optics Inc." for all of its stakeholders, primarily the practitioner and their patients. It increasingly seems however, that these institutions, and there are indeed too many of them, have particular agendas and egos that often limit their potential effectiveness. At this moment in time, there are many significant developments and opportunities ahead for this profession that can only be realised and achieved with much hard work, unified influence and negotiation. I am prepared to do what I can on College Council to ensure that the future of this profession delivers the aspirations of the profession I joined."

Mr Frank Munro will continue to be President of the College for a further year. Mr David Cartwright therefore remains as Vice President.

Three Council Members, who were due to retire by rotation in 2003, did not stand for re-election. These are: Derek Barnes, Anne Duignan and Geoff Roberson. The College would like to take this opportunity to offer sincere thanks for the work that they undertook whilst on College Council, and wish them well for the future. As the number of candidates standing for election, or re-election, did not exceed the number of vacancies on Council, there will be no ballot and voting papers will not be sent to Fellows and Members. Council will decide at its meeting on 25 March 2003 when the two remaining vacancies will be filled.
