College Summer Reception

17 June 2004

The College of Optometrists held its 1st Annual Summer Reception and the grand opening of their newly refurbished library on Tuesday 15 June.

Council Members, College staff and guests from across the world of optics all enjoyed a relaxed evening in the newly refurbished College Library.

David Cartwright, College President, formally opened the library and commented -
“The College Library is one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of optical works in existence. This refurbishment means it is set to become a modern information resource par excellence.” Opening of College Library
He also announced that the library catalogue is now available online via the College website. This now means that members outside the London area can access the library catalogue twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
The refurbishment of the library, which took almost four weeks to complete, means the College is now able to house twice as many books as before. It now also boasts two online terminals, allowing users to access the library catalogue, BS Online and PubMed.

Elsevier Publishing donated £500 worth of reference titles in recognition of the opening of the library, and previous donations by the Oldaker, Sheldrake and Barnet families were recognised at the event.
If you would like to access the library or make a donation please contact Jan Ayres, College Librarian, on 020 7766 4352 or email library@college-optometrists.org
