Roll-out of New Scheme for Registration in Sight

24 February 2005

In January, at the regular meeting between the College and the GOC, the GOC declared that they were ‘very pleased’ with the College’s continuing progress with the development of the new Scheme for Registration of UK trained optometrists.

Said GOC Education Committee Chairman Professor Mike Salmon; ‘the GOC recognise the importance, both to themselves and the College, of having as early a sign-off of the pilot as possible. At our most recent meeting, while it was recognised that there is still some detailed work to be done on the final assessment process, the outline framework was felt to be acceptable and the College undertook to make a submission based upon the GOC’s handbook by the end of February. This will enable the College to give firm guidance to people entering the pre-registration period this summer, when it is expected that the new Scheme will be formally rolled out in its entirety.’
