College New Scheme for registration gets green light from GOC

01 June 2005

The GOC has given provisional approval to the College to roll out the New Scheme for Registration to pre registration trainees from this summer.

The approval, which is conditional on the College implementing any conclusions or recommendations arising from GOC visits that may take place from May 2005 to June 2006, is the culmination of eighteen months of hard work by the College and other stakeholders.

Bryony Pawinska, Chief Executive of the College commented: “I am delighted that we have received GOC approval to move forward to full implementation of the New Scheme for Registration. The lessons we have learned during the pilot year will enable us to deliver a pre registration period that is robust, fit-for-purpose and addresses the needs of the next generation of optometrists. The College would not have been able to achieve this without the input of the other stakeholders involved and in particular I would like to thank my colleagues from the GOC, BUCO, AOP, FODO and HOC for their support.”
