College announces key appointment

01 November 2005

The College is pleased to announce that Ruth Brough will be joining its team as Lead Assessor for the Scheme for Registration of UK-trained Optometrists.

The role has been created to ensure consistency and quality across the new Scheme, which is being fully implemented from this year. Ruth will be responsible for the management and development of Assessors, who are contracted at the College, as well as maintaining her own caseload of trainees.

Ruth, who will join the College at the end of the month, graduated from Aston University and has worked as an optometrist and Professional Development Manager for Boots. She has experience as a pre registration supervisor, is a visiting lecturer at Aston University and is currently a College Assessor with a caseload of over 30 trainees.

Commenting on the appointment, Chief Executive Bryony Pawinska said “I am delighted that Ruth will be joining the College’s Education team in this key role. The pilot of the new Scheme for Registration was a success last year and we now need to ensure its quality moving forward. I am confident that Ruth brings with her the right mix of experience and expertise to make sure this happens and that the Scheme will go from strength to strength.”
