The College of Optometrists

The College of Optometrists has today announced plans to amalgamate its on-line web presence; this will result in the closure of Monoptica. 

 

Since 2002 the College has run www.college-optometrists.org and www.monoptica.com in parallel.  Earlier this year the College further developed its web based communications by launching a new look website.  The new College website has a fresh, modern feel, is updated frequently and contains essential information for Members of the College and the general public.  The new site has been well-received and has resulted in a significant increase in levels of web traffic from both Members and non-members alike.  The College is keen to build on this early success and to ensure that the new website becomes the primary face of the College and in turn, the first place Members turn to for online information.

 

In recent years Monoptica’s online discussion forums have provided the main focus of the site.  These forums have been re-branded and re-launched on College website.

 

“PRPTalk”, is designed to help support trainees during their Pre-Registration Period by enabling them to discuss queries and receive continuing advice and guidance from fellow students and qualified optometrists.  A number of College Assessors and Examiners have agreed to assist the forum by responding to student’s postings.

 

A new forum, “EyeTalk”, replaces “NetTalk”, originally develeloped to offer additional support to College Members.  The forum aims to encourage dialogue between College Members and their colleagues.  Beth Elgood, Director of Member Services and Communications at the College said “we see the forums as another benefit of Membership of the College and hope this dedicated area of the College website will become a useful tool in encouraging debate and enabling our Members to ask questions and find answers from their colleagues.” 

 

Monoptica will close at 5pm on Tuesday 8 November, the new forum, "EyeTalk", will be launched on this site by 5pm on Wednesday 9th.
