Institute looks for participants for new amblyopia research

The Institute of Optometry is starting a new research study into the treatment of amblyopia, using the computerised IPS treatment developed by Ronald Mallett and Andrew Field. The research is a randomised placebo-controlled trial of the treatment of amblyopia by active visual stimulation.
Inclusion criteria:
 
  • Strabismic or anisometropic amblyopia of at least 1DS or 2DC
  • Unilateral amblyopia  (VA between 6/9 and 6/36 inclusive)
  • Good eye visual acuity: 6/6 or better
  • Age: 10 – 60 years old
  • Ocular health normal
 
Patients will be asked to make about 3-4 visits to the Institute and need to have access to a personal computer for the treatments. Please could any practitioners who would like to refer suitable and interested patients e-mail bruce.evans@virgin.net or write to:
