The College of Optometrists awards a number of postgraduate Research Scholarships and Summer Scholarships each year. Postgraduate Scholarships are made in support of research work in optometry or a closely related subject. This year four scholarships have been awarded, please see below the names of the Supervisors and the title of the research:
- Dr J Erichesen, Cardiff - The impact of stress on visual function in nystagmus
- Dr P McGraw, Nottingham - A study of perceptual learning effects in human amblyopia
- Dr C O’Donnell, Manchester - Measurement of higher order aberrations in keratoconus using Scheimpflug photography and Hartmann-Shack aberrometry
- Professor B Gilmartin, Aston - Eye growth in human myopia: structural and electrophysiological correlates
Four Summer Scholarships have been awarded with the aim of encouraging high calibre optometry undergraduate students in the UK to consider a career in research or academia by sponsoring a short period of experience in an active research laboratory, please see below the names of the Supervisors and the title of the research:
- Dr D McCulloch, Glasgow - Infants at high risk for visual dysfunction: Individual project and participation in ongoing clinical trials
- Dr R Beirne, Ulster - The effects of real and simulated optical ageing changes on the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test
- Dr D McKeefry, Bradford - Perceived size of Chromatic Stimuli
- Dr N Sheen, Cardiff - The effect of age and simulated cataract on macular images acquired with the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT 2)
