Stakeholders meet to discuss future agenda for the All Party Parliamentary Group on Eye Health & Visual Impairment

12 September 2006

Representatives from the industry gathered together yesterday at the College of Optometrists for the annual Stakeholder Consultation meeting, to discuss the agenda for future meetings of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Eye Health and Visual Impairment.

The College and RNIB jointly host this annual event to consult with colleagues in the eye health and visual impairment sectors on timely and relevant subjects, which could be suggested to the group’s Officers for their next programme of meetings with MPs, to take place from 2006-7.

Topics discussed included improving access and choice for eye health care, the "postcode lottery" impact on eye health care delivery and the effects of obesity and diet on eye health.

The College is now in the process of collating the ideas and will present them to the group’s officers, who determine the final agenda, shortly.

The next APPG meeting is scheduled to take place on the 18 October 2006.
