The College of Optometrists has this year teamed up with the GOC to deliver a series of presentations to first year students at each university offering a degree course in optometry.
The presentations, which start this week, build on the success of a similar series of events in 2006 and are designed to provide an experienced optometrist’s introduction to the profession, raise awareness of the College and the variety of benefits available to its Student Associate Members. The GOC will use the events to confirm its role and requirements for registration and to answer any queries new students may have. A College Councillor and a member of the GOC’s registration team will visit each of the eight universities to deliver a brief presentation, followed by an informal networking session. The College will also provide students with a Fresher Pack, containing useful items, donated by the industry, such as eye charts, PD rules, USBs, pen torches and an Optician sponsored competition to win an iPod. Students in each year will receive a copy of the College’s student newsletter Foresight, with features including what employers from different sectors are looking for, a behind the scenes look at the College, an update on the Scheme for Registration and details of the College/Elsevier Science book offer, enabling students to purchase titles at a 15% discount.
