New Chair for AOP

22 May 2006

Trevor Warburton has been appointed the new Chairman of the Association of Optometrists, succeeding Lynne Hansford who had held the position for 3 years.

The announcement was made at the Associations AGM, held in London on Wednesday May 17.

Trevor Warburton brings a wealth of experience to this role. He recently served as the Chairman of the Professional Services Committee, is the current Stockport LOC Chairman and over the past 10 years has been an AOP councillor and Board member. He is an independent practitioner who has had his own practice in Stockport for many years.

Commentating on his appointment Trevor said:

“I feel honoured and delighted with this appointment. I am looking forward to spending my time and energy working with Council, the Board and management for the benefit of members. This is an exciting time in optics and the GOS review presents a golden opportunity that we must seize with both hands.

I would also like to thank Lynn Hansford for doing such a marvellous job over the past three years as Chairman of the AOP. She has worked hard to lead the AOP through a period of change.”

Meanwhile, Andrew Merry has been appointed Chairman of the Member Benefits Committee, Lyndon Taylor will head up the Professional Services Committee and Lynn Hansford is now Chairman of the Public Affairs Committee.
