A 27-year-old Accountant is to take on two sprint duathlons to raise money for Fight for Sight.
Alex Gattas, 27, who is on a graduate finance scheme with Syngenta AG in Guildford, has suffered sight
problems since being elbowed in the eye during a rugby match in 2001.
Speaking about his challenge Alex said: “It can get me down sometimes but I am determined not to let my eyesight stop me chasing my personal and career related dreams. Sometimes I feel my eye injury actually powers me on to achieve more than I might otherwise.”
“I decided to take on the duathlons and support Fight for Sight because I wanted to channel some energy into a cause which is closely related to my problem. I want to aid development in eye treatments for people like myself and for others with more serious visual incapacity than my own.”
“I also wanted to give hope and inspiration to people with eye trauma and disease – you can still do things like anyone else and achieve massive amounts in your life- its just more of a challenge!”
Alex will be taking part in the South Coast Classic Duathlon on April 3 and the Cambridge Duathlon on April 30. He will cover 24km of running and 65km of cycling across the two events and the target is to complete it all in under five hours!
Alex is hoping to raise at least £2,000. Click here if you would like to sponsor him.
