President's Cup Golf Day 2008

07 May 2008

On Friday 18th April the College held its annual Presidents Cup Golf Day.  The event was held on the famous Old Course at Walton Heath Golf Club, Surrey.
The course is well known for previously holding the Ryder Cup in 1981 and a host of other European Tour Events.

Sixteen keen participants took part with the main prize being won by John Maginnis from Birmingham with a brilliant score of 38 points off of a five handicap.  He was closely followed by his brother, Wes Maginnis and Past President David Cartwright both scoring 33 points.  Other prizes on the day included nearest to the pin on all the par 3 holes and the longest drive (also won by John Maginnis).  All prizes were generously sponsored by Terry Beart of Pennine Optical.

The day was very sucessful albeit a cold blustery day in Surrey. The rain held off until the '19th Hole' (the Bar!).   A excellent evening meal was had by all at the club which was followed by some good natured 'banter' in the bar afterwards.

All regions of the UK were well represented with golfers coming from Scotland, Northern Ireland as well as South, East and Middle England.
