The College will be hosting four one-day Introduction to Supervision roadshows in June.

In a series of presentations and workshops, the College will draw on the experience of supervisors and assessors to discuss all aspects of supervising Scheme for Registration Trainees including:

  • The role of the supervisor
  • The role of the assessor
  • The relationship between the assessor, supervisor and trainee
  • How to prepare trainees for quarterly work-based assessments
Ruth Brough, the College Lead Assessor, will head up the training with assistance from a Senior Assessor and the College Trainee Services Co-ordinator, Lee Rolls.

Courses, which are free of charge, will run from 10:30 – 16:00 at the following locations:

Wednesday 11 June 2008             Holiday Inn, Camden Lock (London)
Thursday 12 June 2008                 Holiday Inn, Glasgow Airport
Tuesday 17 June 2008                  Manchester Conference Centre (University of Manchester)
Wednesday 18 June 2008             Thistle Hotel Bristol

The College would encourage both potential and current supervisors to attend, as these will provide participants with the opportunity to learn about supervising trainees in the context of competency-based assessment, and to share experiences with other supervisors.

If you, or any of your colleagues interested in supervision and wish to enrol, please contact sharon.bromley@college-optometrists.org or on 0207 766 4371.
