Expert Spokespeople

 
The College has a directory of a number of expert advisers who have volunteered to speak to the media on their specialist area.  Spokespeople include:
 
Dr Rob Hogan BSc MCOptom PhD - President
Rob is the President of the College.  He is Professional Services Director for Dollond & Aitchison and is the Chairman for DOCET. He is also a Council Member of FODO and is their representative on the GOC's Therapeutics Working Group.  At a local level he is involved with the Birmingham Local Optometric Committee.
 
Dr Susan Blakeney BSc MCOptom PhD - Optometric Adviser
Sue is the College’s Optometric Adviser and is a practising optometrist. She is Optometric Adviser to the nine Primary Care Trusts in Kent. She is Chairman of Lambeth Southwark and Lewisham Local Optical Committee, a member of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich LOC, and attends Kent LOC in her role of Optometric Adviser to the PCTs. She has also completed two law degrees and a PhD. Susan has experience of running training courses and has also published several articles.  
 
Cindy Tromans  BSc MCOptom PhD - Vice President
Cindy is Vice President of the College and College Trustee.  She is Consultant Optometrist and Head of the Department of Optometry at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.  Cindy is the Honorary Clinical Lecturer to the Department of Ophthalmology and Visiting Senior Lecturer to the Department of Optometry and Neuroscience at the University of Manchester.  Cindy is a College Trustee, Chairman of the Research Committee, a Pre-Registration supervisor and College Examiner.
 
Kevin Lewis BSc FCOptom DipCLP – Immediate Past President
Kevin is the Immediate Past President of the College. He is an independent optometrist practising in Essex and is also a College Nominee on the General Optical Council. Kevin is a College Examiner and a visiting contact lens clinician at the City University.
 
David Cartwright BSc MCOptom MBA - Past President
David qualified in 1980 and has wide experience in optometry having worked in all spheres of private optometric practice, hospital and university. He is currently the Professional Services Director for Boots Opticians Ltd, based in Nottingham. David is an examiner for The College of Optometrists and sits on a number of National groups such as the National Screening Committee for diabetic retinopathy.  Within the College David has previously chaired the Continuing Education and Finance and General Purposes committees.  He has written a number of articles for the professional journals, and is a past member of the AOP Employee Practitioner Committee. 
 
Tim Hunter BSc MSc MCOptom - College Council Member
Tim is Head of Optometry Services at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He graduated from Bradford University in 1987 and has worked in multiple and independent community optometry practices before becoming a full time Hospital Optometrist in 1993. He is a member of the West Yorkshire Eye Care Network, sits on the Leeds Low Vision Services committee, as well as being a Past President of the Yorkshire Optical Society, a former Treasurer of Leeds Local Optometric Committee, a former member of the AOP’s Hospital Optometrists Committee, a Pre-Registration Supervisor and a College Examiner.  Tim sits on the College Education Committee.
 
Dr Kamlesh Chauhan PhD BSc MCOptom – College Council Member
Kamlesh qualified in 1990 and has developed wide experience of Optometry having worked in private and multiple optometric practice, hospital and university.  He is currently the Professional Services Manager for Dollond and Aitchison in Birmingham.  Kamlesh also lectures at Manchester University and is a College examiner.  Kamlesh is able to comment on driving and vision, macular disease, visual fields and squints.
 
Nick Parker MA FCA
Nick is a Lay trustee and a member of the Lay Panel. He is an expert adviser to the Scottish Executive as Head of the Performance and Innovation Unit. He also holds a number of non-executive directorships of companies in the private equity, waste management and agricultural industry sectors.  Nick is an expert on governance, issues facing membership organisations and the development of public service and expectations.
