The College is the Professional, Scientific and Examining Body for Optometry in the UK and operates the pre-registration assessment programme for graduates seeking registration to practice. As a membership organisation and registered charity working for the public benefit, its 12,000 members include optometrists in the UK and overseas, as well as student members.
The College’s vision is of a society where policy makers and the public understand the unique role optometrists play in providing the best clinical and ethical standards for the improvement and conservation of human vision and the welfare of patients.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and part of a three-strong accounting team, the Finance Manager is responsible for the production of the monthly management accounts of the College and the orderly organisation of the accounting department.
Experience of payroll and VAT compliance is essential and additional key job features include; assistance with annual budget preparation, cash flow management and liaison with auditors.
The accounting system operates Sage MMS and Sage Payroll and there is an interface with the Integra database operated by the Member Services and Communications Department. The College has an on site IT Manager but you should be computer literate and Excel skills are essential.
The successful candidate is likely to be a part-qualified accountant, or have experience of working in a financial management role, preferably in the not-for-profit sector. With strong analytical skills, as well as organisational, interpersonal and communication abilities, you will be a good team player with experience of people management.
