Professor John Lawrenson BSc PhD MCOptom
Following a first degree in Biochemistry at Cardiff University, John studied Optometry at Aston University. After a Pre-registration year at Moorfields Eye Hospital he studied for a PhD on the Neuroanatomy of the Conjunctiva at City University, London. Upon completion of his Thesis in 1991 he undertook a 3 year Post-doctoral Research Fellowship in Neuroscience at University College London. He then returned to join the academic staff at City University where he currently holds a Chair in Clinical Visual Science. John’s research interests lie in the fields of Retinal Cell Biology and Ocular Therapeutics. John is a trustee of the College of Optometrists and Chairs the Academic Committee and Therapeutics Steering Group. He also acts as an Advisor to the General Optical Council.

Jane Macnaughton BSc MCOptom Jane Macnaughton qualified in Optometry from City University and went on to work initially within the Hospital Eye Service. After several years as a sessional optometrist at Moorfields Eye Hospital, she joined the City University visiting staff in 1996. She is currently a visiting lecturer, teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Jane runs her own training company, providing educational programmes to undergraduate and qualified optometrists and is a College Examiner, an external assessor for the Welsh Eyecare Initiative in Low Vision and external examiner for the University of Central England DipHE Visual Impairment rehabilitation course. Jane is a member of the Education Committee. |

David Parkins BSc FCOptom - Treasurer
David works in independent practice and in a hospital in South East London. He is Chair of the Professional Executive Committee of Bexley Care Trust and Optometric Adviser for diabetic retinopathy screening to Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich PCT's. David is a Trustee of the College/AOP Benevolent Fund, a Trustee and active member of Vision Aid Overseas and a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.

Noreen Rahman BSc MCOptom Noreen qualified from Anglia Ruskin University and is currently practising as a senior optometrist for a multiple in North West London. She has worked as a pre-registration supervisor for over 5 years and is a visiting supervisor for City University's Contact Lens Clinic. Noreen is a member of the local optical committee and is involved in a shared care diabetic retinopathy screening service and direct cataract referral service in her area. She has a keen interest in contact lens work. |

Sonal Rughani BSc(Hons) MCOptom
Since graduating from the University of Wales College of Cardiff in 2000, Sonal has held both hospital and practice-based roles. She has worked abroad with charity Global Vision, holding clinics in Romania and India. Sonal currently works as senior advisor for RNIB, providing clinical and professional input in research projects, policy initiatives and media campaigns.
