APERTURE is a service of the British Optical Association Museum aiding users to access suitable ophthalmic heritage content elsewhere on the Web. In this way we hope to 'open out' the subject to the widest possible audience.

You can also find out about our partner optical museums across the globe. It may surprise you to discover how many there are.  Where appropriate we also include pointers to relevant organisations and learned societies.

  Aperture Web Gateway

Welcome to APERTURE the web gateway for optical history sites. This page provides an opening onto the rest of the web for sites with content relating to the science and history of optics or ophthalmic antiques.

We aim to keep APERTURE as up-to-date as possible but you can help by notifying us of broken links or drawing our attention to new museums or websites you have found which you think ought to be included.

Please note: APERTURE does not feature commercial websites.
