Research

One of the prime aims of the College is the advancement for the public benefit of the study of and research into ophthalmic optics and related subjects and the publication of the results. It encourages and supports appropriate research in those areas through its Research Fund, which funds a PhD bursary at each of the Universities in the UK offering degrees in optometry.  In recent years the College’s Research Fund has supported summer scholarships, travel bursaries and some practice-based research.

Donations / Investments

The College is most grateful to those individuals and groups who continue to make donations to the Research Fund. Investment strategy continues to be slanted towards capital growth, in order to make larger sums available to fund regular and ad hoc research.

The College’s Research Committee is reviewing its remit to ensure that it is more pro-active in identifying research needs and disseminating the research it funds, and is drafting a strategic plan to further develop the research work of the College.
